Litho Stone Collection
Litho stone or Lithographic stone is a type of fine-grained hard limestone. This homogenous and blemish-free stone was believed to have been formed during the Late Jurassic period. The first litho stones were mined from a quarry in Sourthern Germany in the late 18th century. This "new" printmaking process became popular quickly and new quarries were opened up in France and Spain. In 1868, the American Lithographic Stone Company began mining lithographic stones in Tennessee and Kentucky.
