V & J Figgins Columbian Hand Iron Press - London
Age: 1874, Serial No. 3249, Platen size 17" x 22"
V & J Figgins was a prominent English press manufacturer
who, like many factories in mid 19th century London, also
built Columbian presses once Clymer's original patents
had expired. Made in 1874, this press came to us in an
extremely poor condition, with large chunks of the frame
missing, requiring extensive repair and fine restoration
of the delicate caduceus design.
Painted pink, the Figgins
Columbian press has been designated as the press power
behind the Pink Ink Program for cancer awareness
campaigns. For inquiries: info@howardironworks.org.
