Description:
This iron press is referred to as a “Washington” which was named after America’s first president. In 1821, Samuel Rust, the original inventor of the Washington, worked out the unique “figure 4” toggle mechanism.
In 1835, R. Hoe & Co. purchased Rust’s patents and began to make their version of Rust’s superior press. This press bears the medallions of Benjamin Franklin and George Washington in bas-relief on the header.
