Japanese Stab bindings have an exposed spine with sewn binding patterns ranging from simple to intricate. The text block is historically flush with the spine, top and bottom edges, and may have a slight overhang on the fore edge. The combination of a flush text block and patterned sewing makes for a strong, long-lasting binding. In this workshop, we will make two books with two different sewing patterns.
