Description:

In intaglio/copperplate printing, the image is incised manually or etched chemically onto the copper plate. Ink is applied on the plate, filling the image’s grooves and lines. The paper is then placed directly on the plate. The cylinder applies enough pressure between it and the bed to force the paper into the ink-filled image as it travels across the plate.

The intaglio presses were widely used in the currency and security printing in the 19th and early 20th centuries as one of the fraud prevention methods of the day. Today, this printing process is more preferred by artists as a way to produce a truly one of a kind print. Our Kelton was manufactured in the late 1890’s at the factory on 124 Baxter Street, NY.
