Description:

M.P.J. Gauge & Tool Co., Birmingham company was known for making type high gauges for the printing trade. Our M.P.J. Caslon plate gauge might have been a result of a cooperation with Caslon, an old and respected supplier of anything letterpress dating back to 1720, when William Caslon started his career in type design by creating a typeface for the New Testament in Arabic.

Our gauge also bears the name of Toronto Type Foundry Co. Ltd. (TTF), whose closure in 1966 empowered our founder, H.W. Howard, to start his own business, which became Howard Graphic Equipment.
