Description:
H.S. Cropper & Co. Ltd. was the maker of the well-known Minerva (inspired by Gordon’s Franklin Press) and Cropperette (based on the Pearl) platen presses. Following the death of H.S. Cropper in 1893, his son Sydney Cropper went into a partnership with Charles Charlton and formed Cropper, Charlton & Co. and continued with the manufacturing of platen presses and guillotines, among them was the Peerless Platen Press. Early advertising claimed its unique selling points were that “it runs as easy as a sewing machine” and that the Peerless was operated by ".. a novel method, the dwell on the press is long."
Our Peerless is from circa 1920s.
